Katherine Davis has been teaching for seventeen years in physical therapy clinics, private studios, community centers, and colleges. She has worked with a broad range of individuals, from children to senior citizens--some badly injured, others Olympics-bound. Katherine moved to the Bay Area in 1996, after receiving her BA in Dance from Scripps College, and her Pilates certification from Performing Arts Physical Therapy/The Pilates Studio in Los Angeles. While continuing to teach rehabilitative pilates, she pursued a career in dance: performing with various Bay Area dance companies, choreographing her own work, teaching modern dance technique to children and adults, and ultimately founding and producing the East Bay Dance Festival in 2002 and 2003. In 2004, she took a step back from the dance world, delving more deeply into the study and teaching of Yoga. She completed Piedmont Yoga Studio's Advanced Studies Program in 2005; and Spirit Rock Meditation Center's Mindfulness Yoga and Meditation Training Program, in 2009. In 2010, she graduated from a four-year program in Traditional Yoga Studies, under the tutelage of Georg Feuerstein, PhD. Currently, Katherine teaches at Piedmont Yoga Studio, as well as her private studio in Oakland. She is passionate about learning, and continues to pursue the yogic discipline of svadhyaya (self-investigation/self-study) through her dedicated practice of Vipassana Meditation.

This Thanksgiving, adopt a turkey! Details at farmsanctuary.org

After much reflection and soul-searching, I've decided to take a break from teaching. My six-month-old daughter needs and deserves a tremendous amount of time, energy, and attention, and it is my dearest wish to be there for her in every way. I will be teaching at Piedmont Yoga on Wednesdays and Sundays through the end of this year (holiday breaks excluded). I won't offer any weekly classes in 2012, though I'm toying with the idea of occasional weekend workshops. I would be happy to keep you abreast of developments if you wish--just e-mail me to be added to my list. I'm sad to say goodbye, after seventeen years of teaching (six at Piedmont Yoga Studio). Thank you for sharing the journey with me! You are bright, bright lights, and you make the world a better place. (11/2011)

Tim and I are thrilled to announce the birth of our first child--a daughter. She arrived just in time for Mother's Day. (5/2011)

I finally graduated from Georg Feuerstein's Traditional Yoga Studies distance learning program! It took me four years, but I am really pleased with the depth of my engagement: all that time was very well spent. The program is a sweeping survey of the yoga tradition--its history, literature, philosophy, and practice, in all of its forms (Hindu Yoga, Buddhist Yoga, Jaina Yoga, Sikh Yoga). In addition to the scholarly content of this course, there is a strong 'practice' element, accessed through hundreds of guided reflections and practical exercises. I found the course to be extremely transformative--it was hands down the deepest and most comprehensive path of inquiry I have undertaken (but this was very much supported by all the time I've dedicated to meditation retreats in the past few years, as well). I highly recommend this course to people who are passionate about learning, and work well on their own. It is a huge undertaking, but if you are willing to invest yourself in it deeply, the rewards are priceless. (12/2010)

I recently completed the Mindfulness Yoga and Meditation Training Program at Spirit Rock Meditation Center. I hope to be offering some combined yoga & meditation classes in Oakland within the next year or two. (7/2009)

Micio Mambo, my local, cruelty-free shoe shop, has closed--another victim of the economic crisis. They are still operating as an online store, however, so bookmark this page! (2/2009)

Those of you who have visited this site before have probably noticed that I removed a number of links, primarily to pages of a more personal nature (wedding pictures, flying pictures, vacation pictures, etc.). These pages and pictures are still available and I am happy to share them with family and friends. Please e-mail me if you would like the link(s).
